Dr. Mitch supported our students through his advocacy in organizing the Barbershop Talk with our black male students. Bringing the barbers to campus allowed for open discussion of how things were going for our students. He also supported our students as they organized their concerns and shared them with senior administration at our college. 

 Dr. Mitchell is an accomplished, passionate, and transformative leader in his efforts to guide students on their journeys in higher education. He exhibits unique skills in equally supporting and challenging students to go beyond their comfort zones to achieve true growth and development. As I colleague, I witnessed Dr. Mitchell relate well to students on numerous levels and communicate effectively across the organization in seeking change. I have witnessed his ability to bring groups together to engage in dialogue across differences and creating a sense of belonging for students.   

Affectionately known by his students as Dr. Mitch, Dr. Mitchell is a positive force in the realm of higher education and is steadily attaining professional and personal success one notch at a time. Dr. Mitchell's commitment to supporting student growth and empowerment are a direct reflection of his own beliefs in life-long learning and whole-body wellness. Leading by example, Dr. Mitchell devotes much of his time to community service and advocacy.

 Dr. Mitchell is a phenomenal educator who constantly encourages his advisees to excel. He is committed to inspiring others to grow personally and professionally. Rightfully, he has earned the moniker the protector. Indeed, he is a protector of the community, and the black voice. He creates a safe place for minority male students to express themselves and gain wisdom from mentors with the Barbershop Talk Series.  

I have never met another individual who attacks the day with such fervor.  Dr. Mitch, from the moment he stepped on campus, uplifted all those around him to the stratosphere that he laid claim to. This distinguished individual provided ample support and guidance to students and employees alike.  He created an atmosphere that most campuses can only talk about by becoming the 10,000 watts that was needed to power, support, and uplift his division. Dr. Mitch has a panoply of tools to use when working with students.  You will inevitably become better, in whatever direction you choose, after working with this outstanding individual.

Out of all the classes I took in college, Dr. Mitchell’s class was the most beneficial class that I’ve ever taken. Dr. Mitchell’s classes were always amazing with great discussions and wonderful hands-on lessons. Dr. Mitchell is not just a regular professor; he teaches with a passion. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
