My philosophy is education is a gateway to transform a student’s livelihood, life, and the world they live in. I firmly believe that regardless of a student’s ethnicity, gender, family background, or socio-economic status, they should have equal opportunity and access to an education, and a prosperous life. As an educator our goals should be to eradicate any roadblocks or systemic barriers, which deny access for students to achieve success, particularly those who have been historically disenfranchised, underserved and underrepresented in the higher education system. Education is transformative. Historically, students have used education as a vessel to overcome insurmountable circumstances, which increases their upward mobility and achievement of a better life. However, in order for students to reach their maximal potential, they need an educational system which is nurturing and supportive, compromised of professionals who are vested in their growth and are willing to advocate and champion for them.
As educators, we have an influential role and responsibility to cultivate students holistically by expanding their personal, social, and academic progression. My fervor and commitment lie in positively changing the lives of students by propelling their thought processes into realizing and understanding their infinite potential for success. My practice supports my passion by enabling me to purposefully engage students, assess students' needs and desires, and enhance students' collegiate experiences by developing programs that organically but strategically bridge the gap between their academic and co-curricular experiences. Personally, I believe there is a significant distinction between a teacher and an educator. A teacher imparts knowledge on a particular subject, whereas an educator expands the knowledge beyond the confines of the curriculum to leave lasting marks upon their pupils. Education is infinite and limitless, and with an education an individual’s possibilities are boundless.
