Barbershop Talk Series

The Barbershop Talk Series (BTS) is designed to foster a community, which establishes a safe space for students to dialogue, bond and support each other holistically.  BTS intentionally creates culturally enriching events and affirming initiatives, which students explore their identity and goals. Students are involved with semester meeting and programs on campus and in the community to interact and discuss topics pertinent to underrepresent males and then have the opportunity to interact with males and mentors. ​ 

The goal of the BTS is to improve the college retention and/or graduation rates and overall student experience among male students attending by providing an environment consistent with their culture and conducive to their success.​ 

Mission: to inspire, educate, encourage and affirm the of leadership of P-20 students and college professionals through interactive intentional and comprehensive training sessions. To some degree, virtually all genres and periods of American literary expression have situated the barbershop as a mediating space in the formulation of masculine identity.

BTS aims to be a mediating space that allows males the opportunity to view themselves and also critique the ways in which they are gazed upon by society. The goal of the BTS is to improve the college retention and/or graduation rates among minority male students by providing an environment consistent with their culture and conducive to their success.
